Still alive!

Posted by: Melissa W on: July 8, 2009

Gah…nearly 3 months since I’ve posted anything here!  So sorry…

Quick update on all of us:

D is now a licensed real estate agent.  If you know of anyone moving to central NC, please get in touch with him!  He got his first referral today and we are praying hard that something comes from it.

I am now in school, taking my first class this summer in pursuit of my nursing degree.  I’m registered for 2 more this fall, so I’m really doing this!  I’m doing very well in my class, so it’s given me the confidence to know that I can do it.

J finished kindergarten and won the top honor for his class, the citizenship award.  We are so very proud of him!  He’s reading on a 2nd grade level (or higher…the test only measured up to 2nd grade) and is just as smart as we always knew he was.  He starts first grade on July 20 and is very excited about it.

C just turned 3.  He’s funny and adorable and has more than a little bit of the devil in him.  On a daily basis, he frustrates me to the point of madness, makes me laugh until I cry, and amazes me as I watch him grow up right in front of me.  I’m homeschooling him for preschool this year since we can’t afford to send him to one and he is so excited about doing “school” just like his big brother.

V will be 6 months old in about 2 weeks, and I can’t believe how fast she’s growing!  We had her baptized in Knoxville last month at the church where we got married and where we had the boys baptized.  It was nice to introduce her to everyone!  As usual, she delighted everyone with her charming personality and sweet nature!

We’ve now survived over a year with no steady income.  It has been scary, but we’re very proud of ourselves for lasting this long.  Hopefully D’s business picks up quickly and we can dig ourselves out of this hole we’ve been sitting in soon.  Your prayers and good thoughts are appreciated as always!

Princess V

Posted by: Melissa W on: February 5, 2009

I know people have been looking for updates.  As you can imagine, it’s been insane here.  We’re all doing well.  I’m healing nicely and V is gaining weight.  (Slowly, but she is gaining.)  We still have people here to help which is great…I’ve been able to focus on taking care of the baby and the big boys have people to entertain them.  They are both adjusting very well.  I was really worried that C would have a lot of jealousy issues since he is still so young and so attached to me, but he’s been great with her.  J is also doing well and we’re not seeing any of the jealousy issues like we saw when C was born.  They both seem to adore her and every time she’s awake they’re both telling me they want to hold her.  It’s very sweet!

D is working 2 jobs and hasn’t been around much.  But it looks like we’ll be able to stay afloat for a little longer.  Hopefully something better will come along soon so we can see him a bit more often.

V is doing well.  She can already hold her head up, has great muscle tone, and a perfectly symmetrical head.  After C’s issues, I know that this is something to celebrate!  Here’s a photo of her from Tuesday, when she was 2 weeks old.

A *very small* update!

Posted by: Melissa W on: January 23, 2009

I don’t have the time (or energy) to blog details, but here are the vitals!

Violet arrived at 12:28PM on January 20, 2009.  She weighed in at 8 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20 3/4 inches long.  She is healthy, I am recovering well, and we are all glad to be home.

2 more days!!!

Posted by: Melissa W on: January 18, 2009

I have registered at the hospital, gotten typed and cross-matched for blood products, made a lot of meals to have while I recover, my mom is here, and I am ready to go.  V does not seem to be ready to go, though!  I’ve been trying a few things to see if I can go into labor, but so far nothing much happens.  Usually I’ll have an hour or 2 of contractions, but they don’t get regular enough or painful enough to convince me to go to the hospital.  I’ve resigned myself to the fact that she will likely arrive on Tuesday, just as scheduled!

My surgery got pushed back a couple of hours, so she’ll probably be born around 10AM.  For those who have friended me on Facebook, I’ll try to post a message there as soon as I can, or have someone else post the news to my wall.  I should be home on Friday and will (hopefully) be able to at least throw up a quickie blog entry with the stats and a picture or 2.  And of course my mom will have the info if anyone wants to get in touch with her for details!

5 days to go!!!

And just in case you’re wondering, here’s a picture from this morning.  I look like I swallowed a basketball!

Still pregnant.

Posted by: Melissa W on: January 12, 2009

Right now, I’m just trying to finish up those last minute things.  I’m feeling a little off today but that may have more to do with the cold I have than any possibility of labor.  I just hope the cold clears up before her arrival!

Right now I’m wondering just how in the world I’m going to handle a toddler, an infant, and a kindergartener.  Because my sweet toddler destroyed my office by dumping my (full) shredder and emptying out my filing cabinet.  There are a million little pieces of paper in here and they’re getting tracked all over the house while I try to sort through the papers that actually need to be put away that are all mixed in together.  Good times.

W Family Players

D is the dad, the husband, and the breadwinner. All around nice guy and good at pretty much everything he does. It's disgusting, really. But makes him worth keeping around.

M is the mom, the wife, and the hopeless housekeeper. At least the kids' heads haven't fallen off yet. Beyond that, she sucks at the "stay at home" thing. Oh, and she's the blogger.

J is the big boy. Born October 11 2002, he is in kindergarten and loves it. Now 6 years old, and too smart for his own good. Talks a lot but extremely entertaining.

C is the little boy. Born June 26, 2006, he went through a lot in his first year but is doing just fine now. The only blond in the family, so his paternity is routinely questioned by rude strangers.

V is our baby girl. She is brand new and arrived in January 2009. So far everything is going well. We're thrilled to have added the final piece to our family puzzle. And yes, she WILL be the final piece!
