The W Family Chronicles

And now an update on J…

Posted on: December 1, 2006

So J was 4 in October.  He was fully potty trained just days before his birthday.  We’d had success with peeing but pooping took a while…one day he just told me he needed to poop and went to the potty and that was that!  I guess it’s true that you can’t force it until they’re ready.  But boy, we tried EVERYTHING.  In the end we gave up and he came to it in his own time.

He goes to preschool 2 mornings a week.  He is really enjoying it and has made lots of friends.  Apparently he makes quite an impression on the other children because every time I meet the mother of one of his schoolmates they tell me they hear about him all the time.  Not quite sure if this is good or bad, haha!  They always reassure me that it is good but I can’t help worrying.

He is a super picky eater.  We have to beg him to eat most days.  There are really only a handful of things he’ll eat, though we’re trying out a new incentive to get him to expand his palate a bit.  I comfort myself by saying that he won’t go to kindergarten eating only a few things.  Right?  RIGHT???

He still loves Thomas the Train and has become addicted to all things Cars.  (Super cute movie if you haven’t seen it!)  He is awaiting the arrival of Santa with great anticipation.  I am quite sure he will be thoroughly spoiled again this year and there will be even MORE toys that will end up strewn from one end of the house to the other.  I am much looking forward to buying a house with an extra room that we can designate as the play room!

His asthma is mostly under control.  The season change is always difficult for him, just like it is for me.  Right now he’s fighting allergies which always affects his breathing.  Luckily he doesn’t have attacks, per se…just bouts of wheezing when he has allergies or upper respiratory issues.

He loves his baby brother, though I know he is somewhat jealous of all the attention that C seems to need.  He was the only child for so long that he’s had a lot of adjusting to do.  But he’s done amazingly well and is very gentle and patient when he needs to be.   Overall, he’s handled it all very well.

Basically, he’s the most amazing 4 year old I’ve ever known!  Smart, funny, handsome…the whole package.  He’s a lot of fun and we feel lucky to have him. 🙂

D is the dad, the husband, and the breadwinner. All around nice guy and good at pretty much everything he does. It's disgusting, really. But makes him worth keeping around.

M is the mom, the wife, and the hopeless housekeeper. At least the kids' heads haven't fallen off yet. Beyond that, she sucks at the "stay at home" thing. Oh, and she's the blogger.

J is the big boy. Born October 11 2002, he is in kindergarten and loves it. Now 6 years old, and too smart for his own good. Talks a lot but extremely entertaining.

C is the little boy. Born June 26, 2006, he went through a lot in his first year but is doing just fine now. The only blond in the family, so his paternity is routinely questioned by rude strangers.

V is our baby girl. She is brand new and arrived in January 2009. So far everything is going well. We're thrilled to have added the final piece to our family puzzle. And yes, she WILL be the final piece!
