Preschool Irritation

Posted on: May 15, 2007

As I mentioned, this is J’s last week of school.  Next year we had planned on him going 3 days a week, and we were all looking forward to him growing and maturing and getting ready for full time kindergarten the following year.

I found out this morning that he is actually NOT signed up for next year.  He is apparently on a waiting list.  Since I sent in his registration form AND the $45 registration fee 2 months ago, I’m pretty shocked.  Had my *registration* check not been cashed, had I been told that the classes were full, had this not been a total shock to me today, in May, when it is highly unlikely to find an open spot *anywhere* I would not be too upset.

And now I’m trying to figure out my options.  There are only 2 other “preschools” in town.  One is the Montessori school and I would love to send him there.  Our neighbor would be his teacher, it’s a great environment, and the list goes on.  I’m pretty sure they even have openings next year, per what our neighbor told me a week or 2 ago.  But my only option there is a 5 day program AND it is about $500/month.  I’m sorry, but the only way we could afford that was if I was working full time.  Of course then I’d also have to find daycare for C and after school care for J, so I wouldn’t be making enough to justify working.

The other option is another church preschool, but from what I’ve heard it’s more of a mother’s morning out thing, not really structured like a school.  J really needs the structure.

So I’m not sure what to do at this point.   The Montessori school would be great if we just had the money.  But we can’t even play with the budget and come up with the cash…it’s so far outside our price range that we can’t even entertain the idea. *sigh*

Why is he on a waiting list if he’s already a student? How frustrating for you!

D is the dad, the husband, and the breadwinner. All around nice guy and good at pretty much everything he does. It's disgusting, really. But makes him worth keeping around.

M is the mom, the wife, and the hopeless housekeeper. At least the kids' heads haven't fallen off yet. Beyond that, she sucks at the "stay at home" thing. Oh, and she's the blogger.

J is the big boy. Born October 11 2002, he is in kindergarten and loves it. Now 6 years old, and too smart for his own good. Talks a lot but extremely entertaining.

C is the little boy. Born June 26, 2006, he went through a lot in his first year but is doing just fine now. The only blond in the family, so his paternity is routinely questioned by rude strangers.

V is our baby girl. She is brand new and arrived in January 2009. So far everything is going well. We're thrilled to have added the final piece to our family puzzle. And yes, she WILL be the final piece!
