The W Family Chronicles

This may be the answer to my kidney stones.  No definite yet, but the symptoms fit.  I currently have a stone in my ureter (confirmed with x-ray) that is causing some problems, so they won’t be able to do the test they want to do until that clears.  I have another appt scheduled for next week and with any luck, this one will have passed and they’ll be able to do the test.  (No more details than that…it’s pretty gross so I won’t overshare!)

Anyway, hyperparathyroidism is easily remedied via surgery.  Usually once that’s done, it stops all kidney stone issues as well as other symptoms.  Those are things like nausea, fatigue, vague aches and pains, etc.  The bad news is that the little bit of research I’ve done on the surgery indicates that I will probably have to wean C as it requires use of a radioactive isotope to determine which parathyroid gland it is that is misbehaving…there are 4, so they have to make sure they remove the right one.

I have no idea how to wean him.  Or when to start, so it’s a slow, gentle process.  I don’t know how long it would be from diagnosis to surgery.  If it all happened fast, then weaning would be really hard on *everyone* but I don’t want to start weaning now just in case this is not the issue.  Hopefully I’ll have more answers in a week or two and I’ll be able to make some plans/decisions at that point.  For now, it just feels good to (possibly) have an answer with a (somewhat) simple solution.

D is the dad, the husband, and the breadwinner. All around nice guy and good at pretty much everything he does. It's disgusting, really. But makes him worth keeping around.

M is the mom, the wife, and the hopeless housekeeper. At least the kids' heads haven't fallen off yet. Beyond that, she sucks at the "stay at home" thing. Oh, and she's the blogger.

J is the big boy. Born October 11 2002, he is in kindergarten and loves it. Now 6 years old, and too smart for his own good. Talks a lot but extremely entertaining.

C is the little boy. Born June 26, 2006, he went through a lot in his first year but is doing just fine now. The only blond in the family, so his paternity is routinely questioned by rude strangers.

V is our baby girl. She is brand new and arrived in January 2009. So far everything is going well. We're thrilled to have added the final piece to our family puzzle. And yes, she WILL be the final piece!
