The W Family Chronicles

Archive for October 2008

I am now in the 3rd trimester or will be by Saturday, depending on which calendar you go by.  I feel pretty good, beyond the occasional mild heartburn, some lingering morning nausea, and fatigue.  Now that the weather is cooling down I’m thinking I could do this for a while longer.

I had an appointment with the midwife today and everything looks good!  My blood pressure is great, my fasting blood sugar was excellent, and Miss V’s heartbeat is strong.  We had hoped to schedule her birthday, but the January calendar wasn’t ready just yet.  I expect we’ll do this at our next appointment in 2 weeks.  (I can’t believe I’m down to every 2 weeks already!)  I’m having an ultrasound on Tuesday and hope to be back then with some more pictures and a video.

D and I have both had birthdays since I last posted…we let them pass without much fanfare this year.  Between the money shortage, me being pregnant, and both of us feeling a little bit old, it just wasn’t a big event!

Hopefully I’ll be back tomorrow or this weekend with some Halloween pictures.  J is going to be a firefighter and C has chosen to be a pug puppy.  Should be pretty darn adorable!

I’m sure many of you have heard about the Kiwanis “Terrific Kid” program.  You’ve probably seen the bumper stickers where proud parents display their pride in having a “Terrific Kid.”  You may have even rolled your eyes and thought that your kids were terrific and you didn’t need a stupid bumper sticker to tell you that.  I know I have!

But I’ve joined the ranks.  My minivan now sports a bumper sticker letting the world know that my kid is terrific.  This quarter they are choosing a Terrific Kid each week(?) in J’s class and he was the first one.  In addition, he brought home his first report card and made all Excellents (in academics) and Satisfactories (in conduct) so we are very proud of him.  Yes, I know it’s just kindergarten and that we already knew he was smart but this lets me know that it’s not just my parental bias when I say he’s brilliant. 😉

We would be proud of him even without all of this…but it’s great to have our child recognized in a way that is tangible for us and for him.

He’s 6 today!  How does that happen???  It seems like just yesterday we were taking this picture…

W Family Players

D is the dad, the husband, and the breadwinner. All around nice guy and good at pretty much everything he does. It's disgusting, really. But makes him worth keeping around.

M is the mom, the wife, and the hopeless housekeeper. At least the kids' heads haven't fallen off yet. Beyond that, she sucks at the "stay at home" thing. Oh, and she's the blogger.

J is the big boy. Born October 11 2002, he is in kindergarten and loves it. Now 6 years old, and too smart for his own good. Talks a lot but extremely entertaining.

C is the little boy. Born June 26, 2006, he went through a lot in his first year but is doing just fine now. The only blond in the family, so his paternity is routinely questioned by rude strangers.

V is our baby girl. She is brand new and arrived in January 2009. So far everything is going well. We're thrilled to have added the final piece to our family puzzle. And yes, she WILL be the final piece!
